We built an accounting platform with role-based permissions, structured ledgers, and the GST e-invoice and e-way bill APIs wired directly into the invoicing flow.
Indian GST compliance spreads a single transaction across multiple government portals. Every invoice was entered more than once, e-way bills were generated somewhere else, and reconciliation was a monthly exercise in finding where the two had diverged.
Underneath it, everyone worked from a shared login. There was no way to answer who had changed a figure, which is fine until the day it is not.
The GST e-invoice and e-way bill APIs were wired into the invoicing workflow itself, so both are generated in the same step as raising the invoice. That single decision removes the second-entry problem, which is where almost all GST data errors originate.
Underneath, structured ledgers rather than a reporting layer assembled at month end, which is what makes reporting available in real time instead of after a reconciliation. And role-based permissions replaced the shared login, so an accountant, a clerk and a partner have genuinely different capabilities and every change carries a name.
Compliance stopped depending on somebody remembering a second and third step. The compliant path became the only path, because the invoice cannot be raised without generating what it requires.
Real-time ledgers changed what the practice could answer and when: a question about position no longer waits for month end.
The stack is a consequence of the decision, not the other way round. On a different set of constraints these would be different names doing the same jobs.
